This text has the potential to remind Miami University students about the historical significance of Miami’s western campus for the Civil Rights Movements since the now former Western College for Women hosted SNCC’s Freedom Summer training. In other words, it helps nudge the dominant culture of Miami University to recognize the historical, political significance of Western--while it’s also important to admit and grapple with the fact that Miami didn’t welcome the Western College for Women’s decision to host this training.
